Woods Adult Day Services History

Woods Adult Day Care Center, Inc. began operation in February of 1975. It was established with the purpose of providing a safe environment, with opportunities for growth and renewal, for the elderly and persons with disabilities. This service prevents unnecessary institutionalization and provides relief and respite for care-giving families. Woods has gone through many changes over the years. A brief timeline is listed below.

  • 1975 – Woods opens at Woods Memoral Presbyterian Church in Severna Park.
  • 1982 – Woods began service to younger physically or mentally challenged clients.
  • 1983 – Woods expanded to two sites – Arundel Center/North in Glen Burnie and Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Severna Park.
  • 1987 – Two sites were consolidated and moved into Archbishop Spalding High School.
  • 1993 – Woods moved into the current location at Cloverleaf Business Park in Millersville.
  • 1998 – Woods changed its name to Woods Adult Day Services. Woods Adult Day Care Center, Inc. remains the legal name trading as Woods Adult Day Services.

Woods Adult Day Services is a privately owned, non-profit, charitable and educational Corporation governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. Our goal is to enable our participants to live at home as long as possible by sharing their care with the family or caregiver. Woods is licensed for 72 participants at the current site.

Our philosophy includes the importance of creating a safe and enriching environment, and treating everyone with dignity and respect. Our staff and volunteers are carefully chosen and share in our philosophy.

In its over forty-two years, Woods has had only three administrators. Dorothy England had the vision to open Woods in 1975; Bernie Feehley, Jr., took over in 1992 following Dorothy’s retirement.
